30 Aug 2013: MIC Elvis Trio live on NTV7 Breakfast Show

The M.I.C. Elvis Trio was reunited after a few years since our last media event for an expat magazine cover story. The abbreviation M.I.C. simply stands for Malay Indian Chinese. What better occasion to feature us than the Merdeka Eve edition of the Breakfast Show. Awesome!!

Once again, thanks to the owner of Ol' Skool pub, Calvin, he has gotten us a sensational opportunity to for a live performance and interview on a national TV channel.

Our brief practice session

Live rendition of 'Can't Help Falling In Love'

Also on the show was Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye. A chance of a lifetime to meet him in person.

I'm taking this baby home. I mean both the babe and this baby. Yeh baybee..

This ends an eventful month of August 2013. In God's perfect timing during the month, my adventure as Elvis has taken me to many places, including Hong Kong and a TV station too!

18 Aug 2013 : Elvis Marathon at Ol' Skool pub, PJ

Fresh from my live show in Genting the night before, I was the opening act for the bi-annual Elvis Marathon event at Ol' Skool pub in Petaling Jaya. The event commenced from 3 PM, all the way until 3 AM the next day.

Promo article featured in The Star prior to the event

Backing me as the live band was none other than The Strangers, headed by drummer boy and my buddy, Jesse. The crowd started to build up at 2 PM and was soon at full house capacity. The other good news was that the local press reporters were present to witness my act, followed by multiple interview sessions.

I was utterly thankful to the owner of Ol' Skool, Calvin for organizing such an amazing event. During the event, Calvin informed me that 1 of the key performers didn't show up and was uncontactable for days. I felt sorry for Calvin, and thought that the least I could do was to fill up a short session before I leave.
And so I sang 2 more songs, 'Doing the best I can' and 'If I can dream', much to the delight of the Elvis fans present.

Just when I thought that it was the end of another wonderful event. It led to another sensational event. News of our Elvis Marathon caught the attention of a local TV network. We were cordially invited for an exclusive interview at the NTV7 Breakfast Show - an experience that rarely comes around....

17 Aug 2013 : The Elvis Tribute Show by Alex Wong - live in Genting

The highly anticipated 'Elvis Tribute Show by Alex Wong' has been my top event in my annual agenda. With its inception and debut in 2008 as a special event open to the public, it has garnered tremendous support over the years. For the 3rd consecutive year, my 2013 show was held at The Patio in Genting First World.

The challenge is to out-do myself with a fresh ideas and lasting impression year after year. Past 2 years were great, and unquestionably creates a higher expectation to be even better this year.

For a Saturday night at 11 PM, The Patio is the place to be. Expectedly, it was a full house crowd eagerly waiting for my performance. With a solid 90 minutes show and a break in between, it lasted beyond 2 AM, with a persistent strong crowd to the end.

A surprise element for my second set was emerging from the store room and getting on to the bar table rocking the house while rendering 'Suspicious Minds'.

In my black suit for my first set. Notice the by-standers catching the show at the back of the stage.

My second set in the Aloha Eagle suit.

The cheering and applause of the crowd, with compliments from the management for yet another excellent show is music to my ears. I officially ended my show with an encore session of 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Are you lonesome tonight', 'Doing the best I can' and lastly, 'If I can dream'.

Much appreciation to my fans and supporters and the management of The Patio for making it a successful event for me. I thank God for being with me through the planning stage with fresh ideas, practices and choreography rehearsals at home, and most importantly, doing exceptionally well for my ultimate 'examination'. Words can't describe the joy and satisfaction after the show ended.

Looking forward to many more live shows in Genting. Let's keep on Rockin' and Rollin'. Cheers ~

7 Aug 2013: Mega birthday bash at Kinta Riverview Hotel

It was an unusually special gala dinner on the occasion of Datuk Koay's birthday, filled with superstars. You name it - Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, P Ramlee, Teresa Teng, Anita Mui, Psy, Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley. The theme ranged from 50s to 90s and the current decade.

Another unusual thing was the request for me to perform 2 Cliff Richard songs after my Elvis set. And so I took it up and did my rendition of 'Summer Holiday' and a special request by the host,  'Congratulations'.

Reputed with having the biggest pillar-less ballroom in Ipoh, Kinta Riverview Hotel is the ideal venue to host the sea of guests, accommodating 100 tables easily.

My performance as Cliff Richard :)

With Jordan Sam as MJ, along with Teresa Teng and Anita Mui impersonators. We had the honour of singing 'Happy Birthday' for the cake cutting ceremony at the end of the event.

Having some fun with retro props outside the ballroom.

 With my wife, Natalie.

Magnificent view from our room in Kinta Riverview Hotel.

My appreciation to the event manager, Bonny and excellent team from Big Bash Events for an unforgettable evening with Datuk Koay and guests.

3 Aug 2013 : Elvis Alliance of Asia concert 2013 in Hong Kong

2013 marked a significant year for Elvis Tribute Artistes from Asia. Along with Mr. HT Long, we were the duo representing Malaysia for an exclusive Elvis of Alliance Asia concert, held also in conjunction with the founder's birthday. Yes, Mr. Tommy Ooi turned 65. Oh what a night !

Held in Novotel Wan Chai, Hong Kong, our event began the night before with a photo shoot for the magazine cover story by the South China Morning Post. We were on the streets of Wan Chai at sunset.

On the birthday bash itself, the dinner guests were entertained by the best of the best Elvis Tribute Artistes from Asia and beyond - Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong & Australia.

With so little time for so many of us, each could only render 3 songs. My songs were 'Hound Dog', 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and a special request by the birthday boy, 'Crying in the chapel'.

At the highlight of the night, we had Mr. Tommy Ooi on stage with for a group presentation of 'American Trilogy'. Oh what a night indeed.

We, as the privileged international Elvis Tribute Artistes chosen for the Elvis Alliance of Asia, gathered as a team to deliver the very best of Elvis entertainment. It was in the spirit of collaboration instead of competition Each has his own style and strengths, complementing one another to pay the ultimate tribute to Elvis.

There were celebrities galore, and a rare occasion to meet them face-to-face.

With former Miss Malaysia (1998), Sherine Wong.
We met last year for the same event in Hong Kong. A good chance for a duet in 2014!

With Mr. Anders Nelsson, a prominent figure in the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
The lovely lady is my Aunt Helen, who secretly arranged with Tommy to attend the event as a surprise for me! Thank you, Aunt Helen, for your support. Glad you had fun and enjoyed yourself.

An awesome pic with my fellow ETAs from Asia.

Meeting Hong Kong veteran actor, Mr. Philip Chan in person. He is humble & down-to-earth.

Many thanks to Mr. Tommy Ooi for the exclusive invitation to your mega event. Wishing you joy and happiness always, with many many more golden years to come.
