How it all began ...

When Elvis left he building, I was only 2 years old. As a kid, my dad would listen to all those Elvis songs and so I grew up, liking Elvis Presley. It’s amazing how Elvis Presley, the greatest entertainer of all time, can influence generation after generation and still be very much remembered even today.
In Nov 2002, I participated in The Search for Elvis competition organized by Light & Easy Radio station (now known as Lite FM). As a rookie Elvis Impersonator back then, I faced strong competition from other veteran impersonators who have been around for many years. With the belief that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, I prepared myself for the competition held at Hard Rock CafĂ©, Kuala Lumpur. I chose “Burning Love” and choreographed my moves based on Elvis’ dance moves in documentaries / footages. During my performance, the crowd's response was awesome. To my surprise, and at the end, I was blessed with the grand prize of a trip for 2 to Graceland.
My trip to Graceland was excellent. Unique memorabilia and prized possessions of Elvis on display – his jumpsuits, costumes, guns, cars, and his private jet. Elvis was the first artiste in the world to own a private jet. But at the end of the day, something was missing. It was incomplete. Elvis was missing. It was kinda sad to see fans all over the world flocking to Graceland only to catch a glimpse of what is left. Tangible, worldly things, associated to the legend. The man himself is gone, and sadly missed.
And a thought comes to mind … appreciate those around you while they are still around. Your parents, your grandmother, grandfather, spouse, children, siblings …. people who matter to you. People who influenced you positively and moulded you into the person you are today, with all the accomplishments you have conquered and having the things you have right now for your enjoyment. It’s not how much you think about them after they have gone. It’s how much time you spend with them and how well you treat them while they are still around. It's how you show your sense of appreciation to these important people that matters to you. Tell them “I love you”. They shall remember your words.
